The Asmat people are an ethnic tribe of the south west region of New Guinea, in Iran Jaya, Indonesia. The pieces which we have acquired are hand carved of wood and colored with natural pigments and each is unique.. Many of these pieces of art have a functional value in their culture, such as the paddles, drums, sago platters and shields. Others have culturally historical value such as the ancestor boards and carved figures.
